SCHLEY COUNTY UTILITY AUTHORITY ANNOUNCES WATER RATE INCREASE

Schley County water rates will increase with the June 2025 billing cycle. The rate increase is due to increased operating and maintenance costs. The water system has been operating in a deficit for many years with the general fund helping to cover costs.

Georgia Rural Water recommended rates for the Utility Authority based on a rate study they completed earlier this year. The new rates, along with the use of the Insurance Premium Tax rebate, should allow the water system to operate with minimal general fund assistance.

The current rate includes 2000 gallons in the base rate. The new rate will not include the 2000 gallons. The Sumter County base is higher since they do not contribute to the Schley County general fund. Schley County base rate will be $35 and all out of county base rates will be $45. Gallons per thousand will be $4.50.

If payment is not received by 5:00 PM on the 15th of each month a 10% late fee will be applied to the bill. If the payment is not received by the 25th an additional $75 fee will be applied and water disconnected on the 26th.

You can prevent delays in receiving your bill by electing to receive the notice by email. You can also pay online. Please contact the Utility Office for more information about email billing and online payments.

Please address any questions regarding the rates to the Schley County Utility department at 229-937-5848.
